About me
I have worked and studied around creative industries for most of my life. This journey has taken me through theatre, film, photography and into games design. The thread that connects all my interests is storytelling. I enjoy telling stories and affecting an audience; whether that's through a game, a performance or in my teaching. I am a lifelong learner and developing new knowledge and skills is an important part of who I am.
Following a foundation degree at East 15 Acting School, I completed a BA in Digital Film at SAE London. I had a short film shortlisted in a Sky competition (resulting in being broadcasted on Sky One) and took another to the Cannes Film Festival.  After graduation, I freelanced as an editor. My most notable work was producing trailers for IMG media, including working with footage from the Premiere League and Australian Open. I started experimenting with stand-up and have been performing on and off for the last 12 years. I've taken four runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and won Colchester Comedian of the Year in 2014.

I am a maker. During the pandemic, I started scratch building models and have since experimented with 3D printing and prop making. I have been able to transfer some of these skills back into games, such as 3D modelling.
In 2016, I began my career in FE at Chelmsford College and began teaching on the Games Design programme. I took ownership of the Games Design course in 2018 and have developed a robust and effective curriculum. I designed assignments from scratch, drawing on industry trends and networking with professionals in a range of roles.

I took on an MA in Games Design with Falmouth University in 2022, eight months after the birth of my daughter. This may have seemed foolish, but it has been the most rewarding educational experience of my life (so far). My particular interest is game difficultly and creating experiences for time-poor gamers. I would be keen to continue researching this at higher levels to contribute to the field of Game Studies.

Games design is the perfect combination of all my skills and interests. I see games as combining elements from every other form of storytelling, creating an art form that becomes more than the sum of its parts. To me, great teaching and great games design are the same thing; keeping someone at the margins of their ability through engaging design that encourages them to push further.
